The SeaTEL 4006 (shown
above, courtesy of SeaTEL, Inc) weighs
approximately 240lbs, and has an outside
overall diameter of 4ft (1.2m)

The KVH V7 is a much
smaller (27" diameter) and lighter
(60lbs) unit, ideally suited for boats
135ft and smaller, or those with limited
mast space. |
How it works:
The VSAT has three parts: the antenna
on the mast or hardtop, the DAC (digital
antenna controller), and the modem.
The Antenna houses the dish and radio
frequency parts needed to talk to the
space satellite.
The DAC steers / points the Antenna
at the correct satellite (and there a
lot of satellites to choose from!)
The Modem translates the ship's
Internet data
into a radio frequency format that the satellite understands. |
