Shore WiFi

If you are at a marina which offers a shore-based WiFi transmitter, use a Ship-To-Shore WiFi bridge to share that signal throughout the boat's network.

When the shore-based service charges per laptop, you can save money by signing up once through the STS, and all guests and crew on the boat can share that subscription.

STS are offered at $1795 for a complete kit, including

  • STS 1000mW (1Watt) unit
  • Antenna
  • 25ft of LMR 400 cable, with N-Male fittings at each end
  • Documentation

How it works:

The shore offers a WiFi signal...

The STS receives it, and uses a built-router to 'split' the data stream up amongst all users on the boat via the boat's LAN and...

The user's data returns via the boat's LAN, and the router in the STS 'reassembles' the data to be sent back to the shore transmitter.
